Wuthering Heights-1939, Dark & White.
A tale of a boy and girl who grow up, becoming a man and woman in appreciate, but are separated by his crude poverty and his obscene situation in life; in a time in England, in the 1700′s, when status in life was very principal and spot. The boy, the man, in hopeless poverty, is treated badly by the rich and seeks to give as salubrious as he gets.
Some charming scenes of the boy and girl in their pleased childhood. The sage grabs your attention and holds it. Yet it is not a ecstatic record. The characters salvage quite intertwined; he loves her, but she doesn’t know….maybe…maybe not…and all this time there is the bitter feuding between him and that guy and him that other guy.
Excellent acting, sets, and poke. Some thought-provoking dialogue. An all-star cast with the magnificent Ms. Merle Oberon as Kathy; Laurence Olivier and David Niven.
It is a memoir of infatuation rather than fair esteem. Notice under the « comment » button below for my reasoning; placed in the comment part because it gives away some of the narrative.
If you like Ms. Merle Oberon; she is also in the vast film « The Scarlet Pimpernel-1935″. Laurence Olivier is in the happier film « Pride and Prejudice-1940″.
This is one of the best films I’ve ever seen – captures the heart of the epic better than any other version and shows the reason Heathcliff is what he is which is often lost in adaptations of this yarn. I cried and cried at the slay – It is truly a masterpiece of acting . . . and probably the only time Olivier got billing beneath his co-star.
