I extinct to follow this prove when I was in high school, and have since mourned the loss of the cable television with which to belief the reruns. My craving for cynical humor having piqued, and there being few other outlets with which to quell this craving, I was compelled to grasp the two available Daria DVD’s.

This DVD plays out like one long (impartial over an hour) episode. Is it Drop Yet? tells a tale of summer hiatus from the mundane pit otherwise known as school. However, is the summer smash really noteworthy of a rupture from prosaic servitude? Quinn is getting succor from a tutor in hopes of raising her college entrance exam scores, Kevin and Brittney are attempting to survive as pool lifeguards, Jane is attending an artists colony that might not be all it’s cracked up to be, and Daria’s mother signs her up for a stint at the OK-to-Cry Corral as a counselor. Furthermore, Daria is attempting to build sense of her relationship with Tom, her best friend Jane’s ex-boyfriend (which is a conundrum in itself) . However, all will wade through their various forays into tiresome subjugation and surface having learned important life-lessons.
In addition to the film, two bonus episodes are included. Fire! and Dye Dye My Darling both occupy status before the movie. In Fire!, Daria’s father accidentally sets fire to their home, causing the Morgendorfers to temporarily proceed into a hotel while repairs are made. This is where the sparks initiate to wing between Daria and Jane with regards to Tom. In Dye Dye My Darling, Daria is forced to abet Jane observe the tiger within by streaking her hair. When the dye job is somewhat less-than-successful, Jane views it as Daria’s plot of trying to smash up Jane and Tom’s relationship.

The repartee between Daria and Jane, the sardonic humor the two exchange between one another, is absolutely smirk-inducing. I treasure the dialogue in this point to. Though Quinn’s friends, in addition to Kevin and Brittney, can be horribly sad to listen to at times, one cannot shriek the fact that similar personas did exist in high school, and continue to persist in the world today, if not quite to the same coarse. Some episodes are of course better than others, but even after five years the exhibit never got old-fashioned, and I have yet to grow out of it.
Anyone who is familiar with, and can indulge in, the cast of characters and all of their idiosyncrasies will rep this a welcome addition to their DVD collection. However, that does not mean that one needs to be acquainted with the series in order to be pleased the film. As far as I know, there is no word yet on forthcoming releases of the five seasons on DVD, so I voice fans will have to appease themselves with the two released short films and their accompanying bonus episodes for now.
Before there was Daria/Is It College Yet? (2002), there was this DVD – Daria/Is It Drop Yet? (1997) . This MTV movie follows Daria, Jane, Quinn, and the rest of the crew (with Up Chuck being noticeably absent) as they go their separate ways to muddle through their contain versions of purgatory known as summer vacation. Be obvious to check out Mr. DeMartino’ sprint from the OK To Scream Corral (a la One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest) . Also included are the bonus episodes « Fire! » and « Dye, Dye, My Darling » as well as Mystik Spiral’s « Freakin’ Friends » music video. Until someone steps up and puts out a Daria DVD boxed spot (hint, hint!!!), this and the College DVD are as cessation as we’re going to accumulate for now.
