How to describe Morocco? After four days spent here I am unsure as to how one might sum up a country of such diverse qualities. African, but inextricably linked throughout history to Europe. A gateway to a continent, but to leave it at that would not be an adequate representation of this incredible place. Morocco is a country steeped in its own history. Everywhere you are confronted by remnants of its past: ancient Kasbahs lie alongside buildings of the French colonial era and you see Arabic, Berber and Spanish styles combined in much of its architecture. Even the languages spoken in Morocco bear testament to its convoluted past: although Arabic is the official language, you can hear French and Spanish spoken in the same conversation by many Moroccans. Geographically, Morocco is no less fascinating. How many other places are there in the world where you can ski, ride camels in the desert, go to the beach and hunt for bargains in labyrinthine souks in the space of a few days? The answer is none. And for that reason I say this: if you ever have a chance to visit this incredible country, seize it.
We were morocco bound… Walking amongst camel excretions was rather unexpected. We must say, but riveting none the less… An experience we will never forget… other than waking up at 5.00 in the morning to see the ‘ spectacular’ sunrise (not as epic as we had expected) though we did feel we looked the part in our multicolored cheches that the teachers kindly provided for us… Each day brings new adventures, new culinary experiences and new kasbahs, one can truly say we ‘rocked the Kasbah! Other than a slight lack of air conditioning we learned to expect the unexpected and welcome the variety of cultures that color the world.
